Hey.

I'm Mary. It's nice to meet you. This blog is a tiny space on the internet to document my musings on style, travel and culture. Enjoy!

Resortwear with a twist

This skirt screams "vacation" to me, like I should be sunning myself on some island, hunting for seashells and sipping fruity drinks out of a coconut. I mean, it's covered in palm trees and what appears to be postcards. My dad probably wore a shirt like this to the Bahamas ten years ago. And all of this adds up to what I love about it. I found it at Mighty Swell's first pop-up sale and snatched it so quickly it was a little crass. But honestly, I can't think of anyone else who'd wear this skirt, because it's kind of cheesy ... and I write that in the most affectionate way possible.

My shoes — the first backless heels I've ever owned — are by Julliana Garten of J.Garten, a sweet-as-can-be Brazilian footwear and accessory designer who just moved to Minneapolis last year. I wrote a story about her in the latest issue of METRO magazine. She's looking to get involved in the local fashion scene, which happens to lack shoe designers. That's kismet for ya! All of her shoes are designed here and manufactured in Brazil. Check out her work!
