Lara Stone in Istanbul

W magazine just posted some behind-the-scenes video from a recent shoot in Istanbul with supermodel Lara Stone. Can you imagine being a random tourist coming across Lara Stone modeling in the middle of the street? How cool would that be?! The bystanders in this video probably had no idea who she was, but they were wise enough to stop and stare.

Watch the video here.

Fall So Far

Just a few snapshots from my iPhone taken over the last month or so: behind-the-scenes at a Minnesota Bride shoot, Twins game, in an elevator at the Graves Hotel for a fashion show, wine and cheese, sunnier climates, old friends, wildflowers and ski-ball. The recipe for a good fall.

What's everyone wearing for Halloween this weekend? As I wrote last year, this is my least favorite holiday, because I hate being forced to wear a costume that I have no intention of ever re-wearing. But I'm not about to be a spoilsport, so I'll come up with something. It's looking like it'll involve a lot of black ... and layers ... and possibly some fun sunglasses. We'll see.

WORK

Here's a single shot from behind-the-scenes at a bridal fashion shoot I orchestrated in Scottsdale on Tuesday. I don't have time to post more at the moment, because I'm getting ready for a weekend getaway to Kohler, Wisconsin to visit the American Club Resort for a story I'm researching. We're hitting the road at 6 AM tomorrow. Time for bed!

BEHIND-THE-SCENES: Stylists Styling Stylists for METRO

This was one of the most fun shoots I've ever organized. Picture this: Five of your favorite wardrobe stylists get together to dress each other up in their Sunday best, complete with gorgeous hair and makeup. Now throw in four bottles of champagne, loud music and a tiny dog. That was Monday in a nutshell. I feel so lucky to get to put together stories like this!

Here's the low-down: I challenged five stylists (Grant Whittaker, Cindy Warner, Jahna Peloquin, Molly Roark and Hollie Mae Schultz) to style one look each, using each other as models. So, each person modeled for a photo, and each person styled someone else for a photo. Five photos total. You'll have to wait until the November issue of METRO comes out to see the final shots, but I'll tell you this much: Each look is completely different from the next. The story does a nice job demonstrating the unique touch each stylist brings to his/her work.

Backstage at Preen Spring/Summer 2012

This was one of the most enjoyable hours of my Fashion Week. Preen's new collection is heaven-sent, full of creamy yellow, baby blue, sharp pink, rich navy and the coolest psychedelic foliage print. The cuts looked '60s-inspired to me, with boxy skirt suits, pencil skirts edged in ruffles, dresses cinched at the waist and delicate feminine blouses.

And then of course, there were the models. Seeing Lindsey Wixson and Arizona Muse, two of my favorites,  was amazing. They're unreal beautiful. They must know it, right? Not in a snobby way, but simply because they're treated as goddesses in the fashion world. The photographers went nuts for them.

The sleek, coiled updo by Aveda, led by Paul Hanlon, really complemented Preen's collection. Here's how it was made:

"Give hair some grip by prepping with Aveda Volumizing Tonic and blowdrying away from the face with a round brush. Let hair part naturally and smooth with a fine-toothed comb and a mist of Aveda Air Control Hair Spray. Twist both sides of the hair from just above the ear, working your way to the back of the head along the parietal ridge. Clip hair at the back of the head and either twist into a bun or incorporate the ends of each twist into the roll on the opposite side of the head.  Smooth with a fine-toothed comb, using Aveda Air Control Hair Spray to eliminate wisps.  Finish with Aveda Brilliant Spray-On Shine."
- Paul Hanlon for Aveda

Stay tuned for runway shots!
