Man, this was a fun show.
Not only was it awesome seeing my friend Ra'mon-Lawrence Coleman's latest collection, but I got the chance to meet up with a bunch of current and former Minneapolis peeps! Nothing could've been better.
But about the collection! Ra'mon, whom some of you may remember from season six of Project Runway and Lauren Conrad's Kohl's collection, unveiled his Spring/Summer 2012 collection at Happy Monkey on Saturday. It consisted of both men's and women's wear inspired by Ethiopia and photos from the 1930s that Ra'mon got from his grandmother.
I really like the easy fit of many of these garments, especially the pink, almost animal-print skirt and top, the wide-leg grey striped drawstring pants and the sheer black skirt. His menswear was similarly relaxed and casual, like something a guy might wear on vacation or for drinks after work.
Ra'mon partnered with jewelry designer Robyn Robinson of ROX jewelry, which is sold in shops around the world. He loved the raw nature of Robyne's work, and I have to agree. She doesn't try to disguise a stone or make it into something else, but lets its natual beauty shine through. My favorite pieces were the most statement-y, like the giant round baubles on the girl in the grey print dress and the spiky red necklace and bracelet on the girl in the grey and pink printed tank-top.
Ra'mon and Robyne are both developing strong brands, getting better and better each season. It'll be fun to see where they end up and how they continue to grow!
