My dad sent me the prettiest old photos of my grandmother the other day. I've always wondered where I got my interest in fashion since none of my relatives seem to care much about style. I now know that it's 100% from her.
The photo above was taken in the mid 1970s. I love everything about it — her broad-collared polka-dot blouse, loose-weave sweater with button details on the shoulders, oversized glasses, and perfectly made-up face. My grandmother ran a beauty parlor with her sister during the depression, while my grandfather was at war. She said that even when women barely had enough money to eat, they still insisted on getting their hair done.

My grandparents traveled a lot during the '70s and '80s, heading south to Fort Meyers, Fla. each winter in a big RV. I love my grandma's chic resortwear — lots of blouses, headscarves and high-waisted skirts and slacks. She had seven kids, but never let herself go.

You should post more of her! She always looks so great. Idea: Post a picture of her in a killer outfit and then replicate it on you.
I LOVE your grandma's style! Thanks for sharing.
I love everything about this post. That last photo of her is so badass!! What a beauty!
I love this. I too was very influenced by my grandma ...as far as style, taste, class and fashion are concerned. Your grandma was fabulous!
also, your blog name is fantastic . . . I may want to feature something from you in the Style Section of BlogHer, if you don't mind ;)
Thanks, everyone! I'm going to try to find some more vintage photos of my grandma to post here.
And Maegan, I would love to be featured in the Style Section of BlogHer! Thank you very much for asking!
Mary! Katy seems to care about style and she's your twin!! (referencing the relative comment :p)
I also love Katy's idea of the outfit replication.
Katy totally cares about style! We just have different opinions on what's stylish :)
