Hey.

I'm Mary. It's nice to meet you. This blog is a tiny space on the internet to document my musings on style, travel and culture. Enjoy!

Ice age / pink lips

Winter shocks me every year. I'll never get used to these initial cold days, the way they sneak up on fall like a snowball to the back of the head. It's wrecking havoc on my skin, drying it to the point of molting. And I'm already starting to hibernate. Going outside is painful, jarring, unfair. Can you tell it's my least favorite season? I should've been born on the equator—smack on the imaginary line they show tourists—just hanging out, sipping mimosas, working on my sunburn.

But I'm here, in a four-season climate, so why not make the most of it and shop for things that make me happy in materialistic, weatherless ways? Things like hot pink lipstick, the latest beauty trend to enrapture my attention. It all started with Diane Von Furstenberg's Spring/Summer 2011 ready-to-wear collection, shown this past September at New York Fashion Week. Each model was glamourized in Barbie-style, bubble-gum pink lips with dewy cheeks and fresh, neutral eyes. It worked perfectly with Furstenberg's looks, which were full of loud, graphic prints in clean, modern cuts, like breezy pleated shorts and beautifully draped dresses.

I just think it looks so chic. Certainly not for every complexion, but versatile enough to pick up some steam trendwise. I picked up a tube of British brand Boots No. 7 Stay Perfect lipstick in Classic Rose. It's not quite the punchy pinky pink I'm looking for, but a step in the right direction. I think I need to stop by MAC sometime soon for the real deal.

Anybody else digging this color? Would you wear it?
